Virtual Community Guru
Gaiam is a lifestyles-of-health-and-sustainability (LOHAS) company. Hired to develop an online community for the brand, Scott designed and shipped the Gaia.com community experience from the ground up: information architecture, onboarding, and engagement systems, built on Ruby on Rails. The platform reached 700,000+ members in nine months. After funding was cut, the platform was eventually wiped from the Internet — a loss Scott later wrote about in "Building Community: The Game Changed" (June 2010).
