The Legend of Talibah
The high school game whose weekly dev updates became blogging before the word existed.
The Legend of Talibah was an ambitious computer RPG I built in high school under the Zaskoda Soft label. TLOT is a classic console style RPG โ inspired by Dragon Warrior on the NES and Final Fantasy II on the SNES โ rather than the PC-RPG style everyone else on DOS was chasing. I wrote the code and drew the pixel art myself.
Eventually the scope outgrew one person. I needed help with music and art, so I went looking for collaborators online, and that search is what led me to build Fantasy Origin, my first online community. The game ended up creating a community as a side effect.
I documented the work in weekly updates on my website starting in August 1996. I just called them Web-site updates because the word "blog" didn't exist yet. They're the earliest writing I still have online, and the start of a habit I never broke.
