Shout out to Pow and Jib

September 24th, 2007

Pow and Jib LogoI wanted to take a moment to give a shout out to Pow and Jib. I got a mention in a post as a “Denver Snowboarder”. Holy crap, I guess that’s true now. It’s hard for me to shake this whole Texan thing off. I still feel very much like a Texan in Denver. Anyway, I really dig the cartoon boarder on the header of Pow and Job – very cool. If you get a chance, check it out.

More Wolf Creek Village Setbacks

September 21st, 2007

Bob HontsI first heard the news on NPR this morning and it’s all over the wires already.

The Colorado Court of Appeals ruled against developers of the Village at Wolf Creek on Thursday and upheld a lower court that threw out their subdivision permit.

The next bit is some good news, however:

But the appeals court sided with the developers on several other issues.

You can read on for the details. If the village happens, it won’t be soon.

Picture This Teaser

September 4th, 2007

I don’t know what to say. Other than sick riding, this teaser video has some of the best camera work I’ve ever seen. There’s some awesome editing work in there too. The ending of the teaser is gut wrenching. I’ll be picking it up later.

An Online Community for Spam Bots

September 3rd, 2007

Tonight I launched a new online community. Other than myself, it has zero members. It probably won’t ever have any. The intent is to allow spam bots to infest the site and post at will. I call it:

BOTARCHY!

…only because bothole.com was already registered…

I Got My Season Pass

September 3rd, 2007

My Colorado PassI decided to swing by Ski and Golf as this weekend marked the start of the big sales. While there, I found a booth selling the Colorado Ski Pass. I’d been looking at them online – so they didn’t really need to sell me on them. What I didn’t know was that you can’t buy them online – you can only renew them. They have to take your photo for the pass. I’m lucky I happen to stop by today as the prices will be going up soon.

An interesting note about the pass – after donating the $1 for some kinda parks and wildlife thing, the pass cost exactly $420.00 after taxes.

Bring on the season!

Just Missed Winter Park Mountain Biking

September 2nd, 2007

Look of fear…I’m a little bummed. I’ve been doing the mountain biking thing off and on for a while. I’m not real hard core; but, I really enjoy technical terrain that’s right at the edge of my ability. I’ve never ridden a downhill run. In fact, back in Texas we call it off road biking instead of mountain biking – because we lack mountains.

One of the items on my “to-do” list was a day at Winter Park on my full suspension. I planned on going out there this weekend, but I had company fly in from Texas and decided to give a tour instead. Interestingly enough, the tour ended by taking the road back through WP, so we swung by to check it out. It looks completely different during the summer! It looked like so much fun taking a lift up and then riding a bike down. So why am I bummed? Because tomorrow is the last day and I have to have my friend back at the airport at 2:00pm – hours in the opposite direction from WP.

I didn’t think twice about moving my riding plans from this weekend until next. I guess I should have checked closing dates! Still, the fact that the summer activities are closing means one thing – winter activities are on the way!
