I’ve finally reached a milestone. With this latest video edit, I’ve finally gone back and made a video cut for every snowboarding trip I’ve shot video on (I think). This one is the oldest of the batch so it’s none too impressive. I spent less than a few hours on it as well… but it’s great to be finished!
Today we started to notice missed recordings on our Verizon provided DVR. Some shows weren’t recorded while others were cut off. Then we noticed that the time on the box was off – way off. It wasn’t just the wrong time, but several hours too far ahead. It looked to us that it was the result of a botched daylight savings time change. Not entirely sure where the box gets the time from, we tried powering cycling the unit. This did not work.
I called Verizon’s technical support. I found it really tough to locate the phone number for their support. Somehow I kept landing on support pages that were void of phone numbers. Anyway, I finally found it and called. Before any other recorded message – aside from selecting your language preference – a message came on apologizing to customers who are having difficulties with their DVRs as a result of daylight savings time and telling us that they are working on a solution.
This is not the only case of large companies not being prepared for this type of change. Earlier today I read that GoDaddy’s DNS was down for a while. At least they got things fixed quickly. I’m hoping to get Battlestar Galactica recorded tonight.
One more thing I have to mention. I noticed that the Verizon support page had a ‘Special Notice’ regarding a marketing promotion, yet no mention of the system error. Typical.
Gavin over on Afterbang made a powder day post with some fantastic photos a little bit ago. The one I snagged (hope thats ok Gavin!) makes me want to buy a green coat. I know this is going to sound a little silly, but the blue glass in the gondola picture reminds me of the “glass” Lego blocks I used to play with as a kid. Gives me that funny happy feeling. Well, my friend and server admin is working on the server and I needed to post as a test… so I thought I’d go ahead and make a real post. I think my season is over and soon the summer will come. I keep considering one more trip for the season, but I would really like to put my money and my vacation days towards something else this year. I do keep fantasizing about moving to a tiny little snow resort area that I know is going to explode soon (I’ll talk more about that in a future post). Who knows, maybe I’ll get the guts to do it.
Expect the posting rate to lower around here for a while… or maybe I’ll talk about surfing for a bit! Anyway….
I finally finished editing the video and pics together for my traditional montage. Wolf Creek is an amazing place. I’ve got a few more WC related posts to make in the future. Meanwhile, enjoy the video from our trip!
