I’ve been trying to shoot video here at Wolf Creek, but I haven’t captured much that really tells what its like here. The clip below is of Freerider (same guy in the photo of the last post) running ahead of me through the trees. It gives a good idea of what the powder is like here…

I hope I’m able to make this post. The wireless Internet at this place is really shotty. In fact, our accomodations aren’t anywhere as nice as the place we landed in Steamboat. We have no microwave, the water pressure sucks, the carbon monoxide detectors keep going off (long story), the hot tub is not very hot, and the decor is… well… almost humorously bad.
But, we’re not here to stay in a nice place, we’re here to check out Wolf Creek ski area. In just a matter of months, Steamboat lost the bid for ‘best snow ever’. Wolf Creek is wonderful! I’m not sure where to begin. I’ve always heard that Wolf Creek is famous for having tons of wonderful snow. It’s true. Beyond the epic snow conditions, the mountain is just alright. The drop isn’t much and a fast run will end quickly. The lifts aren’t the best and the trails are poorly marked. The lack of well defined trails is actually kind of a plus. You really can ride just about anywhere on the mountain. There are fantastic paths through the trees and lots of natural terrain features to play on. You do have to learn the mountain a bit though, as there are lots of flat and even uphill areas you can accidentally find yourself in.
The attached photo is of Freerider from DallasSnowboarders.com looking down the slope just before we dropped in. I’ll post better pictures later.

Well, it looks like I’m leaving tomorrow for Wolf Creek in Colorado. This is my first time to this resort so I’m not sure what to expect. Since there are no accomodations on the mountain, we’ll be staying near by at South Fork. It looks like we might get a little snow while we’re there. I’m excited to check out somewhere new. This may be my last trip this season. I hope it’s a good one.
I didn’t do the fitness push for this trip like I did for the last. I managed to get to the gym the past three days, but before that it was weeks. I’m taking tonight off to rest and I should be boarding by the day after tomorrow. Yippie!
SnowTripping
It’s been about four months since we launched DallasSnowboarding.com. With the initial launch, we did a lot of promotional work. However, that lasted about a month and then we got distracted. Since then, we’ve merely used the site as if we were just community members – aside from some moderation here and there. Here are some stats on the community’s growth and development:
100 Users Registrations – A lot of users are banned spam bots. We have a little more than 20 users with 3 or more posts and several users with hundreds of posts.
We have 1881 articles and have had up to 10 users online at one time.
About 35,000 page loads in the month of January. We had over 5,200 page loads in one day during December.
We’re almost 50/50 split between Firefox and msie.
We have a google page rank of 2.
We’ll be looking at an overhaul of the site probably during the off season (spring/summer). The software platform is weak at best – but that’s an entirely different blog post.

Well, the site was down for about five days… We physically moved our server to a new location in a new state. This took a little while; and even after it was setup, DNS had to propagate. Everything is mostly back online now. Meanwhile, we finalized our plans for what may be my last snowboarding trip this season. We’re gonna give Wolf Creek a try and see if it’s as Epic as everyone says.
